Nina Proll - schauspielerin

Nina Proll

Kurzfilm

Klagenfurt, Kärnten. September 2009

I had an awesome weekend in Klagenfurt. The lake is quite warm, so we ended up swimming a lot!

Mark Bittman's Breakfast suggestions

Did a quick research on Mark Bittman's recipes and came up with this.
I'm buying one of his books for my dad as a X-mas gift.

Hybrid Quick Bread
- serves 4 to 6 -

Adapted from Food Matters: A Guide to Conscious Eating by Mark Bittman.
Ingredients

1/4 cup olive oil, plus more for the pan
2 cups whole wheat flour, plus more if needed
1 cup all-purpose white flour, plus more as needed
1 1/2 tablespoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoons salt, preferably coarse or sea salt, plus more for sprinkling
3/4 cup yogurt or buttermilk
3/4 cup warm water
2 tablespoons honey (optional)
Procedure

1. Heat the oven to 375°F. Grease a cookie sheet or 8-inch square baking pan with about a tablespoon of olive oil. Put the flours, baking powder, soda, and salt in a food processor and turn the machine on. Into the feed tube, pour first the 1/4 cup olive oil, then the yogurt, most of the water, and the honey (if you're using it).

2. Process for a few seconds, until the dough is a well-defined, barely sticky, easy-to-handle ball. If it is too dry, add the remaining water 1 tablespoon at a t ime and process for 5 or 10 seconds after each addition. If it is too wet (this is unlikely), add 1 or 2 tablespoons of whole wheat flour and process briefly.

3. Form the dough into a round and put it on the cookie sheet or press into the prepared pan, all the way to the edges. Bake for 20 minutes then sprinkle the top with a little coarse sea salt, and continue baking for another 35 to 40 minutes, until the loaf is firm and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool completely, then cut the bread into slices or squares and serve or store for up to a day.

FRUIT AND CEREAL BITES
- makes about 3 dozen bite-size balls -

1 1/2 cups dried fruit
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 tablespoons honey (optional)
Fruit juice or water, as needed
1 cup ready-to-eat breakfast cereal, like granola
Crumbled shredded wheat, whole grain flakes, finely ground nuts, cocoa, or shredded unsweetened coconut for rolling
Procedure

1. Put the dried fruit, oil, and honey if you are using it in a food processor and puree until smooth, adding fruit juice a little at a time to keep the machine running. You'll need to stop once or twice to scrape down the sides of the bowl. (Add small amounts of water or fruit juice if the fruit is dried out and is not processing.) Fold in the cereal until evenly distributed.

2. Take a heaping tablespoon of the mixture and roll it into a ball. Then if you like, roll the ball around in your topping of choice. Put the ball between layers of waxes paper in a tightly covered container and refrigerate until set, about 45 minutes. Eat immediately, or store in the fridge for up to several days. You can also wrap the balls individually in wax paper like candies.

Fruit and Cereal Bars: Line an 8-inch by 8-inch pan with foil. Follow the recipe through Step 2. Spread the mixture in the pan, pushing it into the corners and evening the top. Refrigerate to set as above. If you like, dust the top with any of the toppings. Then cut into squares.

Zucchini Fritters
- serves 4 -

About 2 pounds zucchini, eggplant, or turnips, peeled if necessary and grated
1/2 onion, peeled and grated
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1/4 cup flour or plain bread crumbs, more as needed
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 to 4 tablespoons butter or extra virgin olive oil
Procedure

1. Mix all ingredients in a bowl except butter or olive oil. The mixture should be fairly loose but not iquid; add more flour or bread crumbs if necessary.

2. Put butter or oil in a large skillet and turn heat to medium-high. When the oil is hot, put generous spoonfuls of batter in the pan. Cook, flipping once, until nicely browned on both sides - 10 to 15 minutes total.

3. Serve hot or at room temperature.

Fig Clafouti
- serves 6 -
Adapted from Everyday Food magazine.
Ingredients

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted, plus more for the pan
8 ounces dried figs, stemmed and coarsely chopped
1 1/4 cups Everyday Baking Mix (recipe follows)
3 large eggs
1 cup half-and-half
Confectioners sugar, for dusting
Procedure

1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Butter a 9-inch baking dish or cake pan. In a small bowl, toss the figs with 1/4 cup of the baking mix.

2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, half-and-half, melted butter, and remaining cup of baking mix. Add figs and stir until just combined. Pour batter into pan and place pan on a baking sheet. Bake until center of clafouti is set, about 30 minutes. Let cool until barely warm. Dust with confectioners’ sugar and serve.

Everyday Baking Mix (Quarter Portion)
Ingredients

1 1/2 cups flour
3/4 cups of sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
Scant teaspoon salt
Procedure

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl. Whisk well.

aqui a bica custa 1,90!
chiça!

chickeeeen!

Today I had to write a really important exam. I had just walked out of my university still thinking about my answers while I was going through the park to get to the tram station, when I noticed a little old couple looking down at a brown chicken.

It was nice and sunny and amazingly it was not very cold.

The couple must have thought "What a fine day to take our chick for a little walk!"

That is what they did!

They took a big basket (THE CHICKEN WAS HUGEEEEE, maybe a rooster?????) with them and they let it out just there, in the middle of a walking path.

I smiled at the couple and stood there to watch what the chick would do. The old couple kind of felt under pressure I guess...

So they pushed the chick a little so it would move around :D

What impressed me was the level of relaxation of that chicken...

as if it was the most normal thing in the world, going out for a walk.

Hopefully she does not get nervous around dogs!!!

the OWL - Online Writing Lab

Don't have time to go and explore this website now because I need to study
but I just wanted to leave this link here because it sounds SO interesting and worth taking a look.

I will definitely explore this baby later this week!

THE OWL Online Writing Lab offers FREE resources including:

* Writing and Teaching Writing
* Research
* Grammar and Mechanics
* Style Guides
* ESL (English as a Second Language)
* Job Search and Professional Writing

blaaaaaaa frustrated today; but...

chocolates... 0 today
chips...0 today

pretzels: 40-60
tea: 1 liter
coffee: 1 mug
fresh orange juice: 1 cup
homemade banana milkshake: 3 cups
walnuts: 15-30
peach iced tea: 1 cup
marzipan: a few spoons
spekulatius cookies: 2
Dates: 6-8

this is what I eat while I am trying to study

it's not going very well though.

I am tempted to either go to bed early or drink a coke.

started thinking I need to do something in order to increase my level of concentration because it is imperative that I study to pass this exam this week.
As you can see... I am not very focused today.

So I took a look here and realized these are things that will not directly help me much.

I can't take walk, I feel a bit ill and tired.
I can't change the study subject - it is all the same boring sh**

so.. nothing left to say or do but to study anyway. Even if I cannot concentrate enough for longer than 10 minutes.

The gooood news are:

+this week is exam week.
so... NO CLASSES after tomorrow!!!!

+So this week, after my exams, I will have time so I'll write about Roland Barthes and his wrestling theory - veryyyy funny, I promise!

+I already feel a tingling feeling in my belly because of christmas =) And I'm flying home, and I'll do christmas shopping with my sister who is pregnant!
Ho HO Hoooo!

+I bought tons of stuff on ebay (everything really really cheap- thank god!) because I was feeling a little down regarding my image and wardrobe.
(I have very little clothes here in Vienna and some of them are soooo old, like over 6 years!!! Yes I still wear the same size!!!! it's CRAZY!)
I changed my opinion on clothes. I am now officially an AFA : an Anonymous Fashion Addict.
But I did not tell anyone: it's anonymous!!!!
so the stuff is coming this week in the mail and I am totally excited!!!! can't waiiiit
It's like opening presents on christmas night/morning.

Don't you feel like that when you order books from Amazon, or old vintage stuff bought on ebay?
I do :D
it sure puts a BIG SMILE ON MY FACE

have a great day!

what is poetic realism????

In literature and in cinema there is the so called réalisme poétique - in french cinema also "l'ecole francaise des annees 30"

This paradox: poetic realism is hard for me to understand and describe. I am still trying to grasp what it means exactly.
Until January I will have to decide myself upon a definition and work on it for an essay.

poetic realism are opposites combined.

How can something be realistic, yet poetic at the same time???

The expression "poetic realism" was coined by Jean Paulhan, editor of "La Nouvelle Revue française" in 1929.

I believe it was used to express the idea of a film showing horrible, sad and tragic stories without ever loosing the poetry in them.

Among the directors of poetic realism are: René Clair, Julien Duvivier, Marcel Carné, Jean Renoir, Jacques Feyder, Marcel Pagnol.

Here is the magnificent beginning of La Bête Humaine, by Jean Renoir
the most important director in poetic realism

standing up!

I have a lot of back problems like many people out there.
Some days are better and some are worse.

I spend most of my day sitting down:
I go to school I sit down in the tram
I am at school I sit down to write things down
I eat while sitting down
I come home and sit in front of my laptop

And today I stumbled across a very interesting interview (watch part 1 in german here) (and part 2 here)to a physiotherapist, and the man gave this important advice:

leave your chair alone when you get home - a chair is our worst enemy
that is not how we were meant to sit - it is everything but natural
sit on the floor on a soft mat to read, listen to music, watch tv, talking with your partner etc.
the first 2 weeks are tough but then you will see this will do wonders for you =)

also try to change your routine, do things differently
do not repeat everything in your life the exact same way... start in the simple things
but do it today!

I like this quote

"I try to keep the things that are important to me close to me... and everything else
I just leave very simple so it doesn't have to occupy too much of my already jam-packed brain"

old man, a call to the truth

I saw a man a few days ago. He was sitting in front of me in the tram.
I was going home and wondered where we was going to.

His shoes were old and had holes in them. He had lots of sheets of paper in his hand and a tiny old yellow plastic bag. He hadn't shaved for a few days and he had no teeth.
He did not smell and he wasn't loud.
He just sat there and looked as normal as anybody else.

He took a bottle of a fruit smoothie out of his pocket.
It's a brand I already bought once.
I looked at the bottle as the man tried to open it. I noticed the color of the smoothie. It was brown. Almost like chocolate.

I knew the brand. The brand makes fruit smoothies: banana, mango, strawberry, the usual flavors. They don't make chocolate smoothies.
He must have been drinking something really old that had been thrown away. Something he must have found in the garbage of a supermarket. All big supermarkets throw away the food they did not sell.
I felt sad.
Just about everyday in my life, I complain to myself how little money I have in comparison to others, how people buy themselves nice things and expensive things.
And how I don't.

I wish I'd remember the man on the tram every time I complain about money.

THINK PIECE

collages and expression: new finding

Found an interesting website
polyvore.com

it is atually supposed to be a totally superfluous place where fashion junkies exchange their tastes
by creating images and collages with their favourite products and designer items.

But like in every more or less creative kind of activity
there are people who use the tools to make nice manipulations

The great thing about this website is that you can do your collages as well online without having to pay anything.

site oficial dos protestos unibrennt.at
